August 2016 ION Prayer Focus

Here we are at August, the eighth month of 2016. Did you know that the number 8 traditionally is known as representing “new beginnings”?

Well we are going to share two things related to “new beginnings”.

The first one is: We are introducing a new monthly feature that will allow us to pray together corporately. To find out more you will need to watch the event page on the official ION Website. For the information for August please click here: https://orality.net/event/praying-for-uupgs-the-persecuted-church-oral-peoples-in-south-sudan/

This month we will be using resources from our orality partner groups, Finishing the Task and PrayerCast. We are grateful for all our intercessors, pray-ers and partners.

The second item is: Our core team and myself are finishing out ten (10) years in place with the International Orality Network. That is an item to celebrate. Lots of changes have occurred since Avery Willis brought us into this world. We have learned so much about orality and about prayer along our journey. We have been blessed to see prayer grow within the context of ION.

ION has a solid foundation of “an invisible, yet tangible platform of prayer.

When we began to pray for ION, it started a chain reaction for us individually and for us as group. The pattern similar to Psalm 40:5
Lord my God, You have done many things—
Your wonderful works and Your plans for us;
none can compare with You.
If I were to report and speak of them,
they are more than can be told.

Along the way, prayer has given birth to many shifts. It has caused the reality of paradigm shifts that has affected many areas. Some of that has affected how we do prayer. And how we pray together corporately and individually.

As we began to be engaged in praying primarily for Oral & Bibleless Peoples (an intentional shift we took in 2014), we began to move in oral methods as a team. We sensed the need to take our community of prayer to a whole new level. We began to advocate for the use of audio Scripture daily. To use Bible Storytelling in our prayer times. Most of our prayer team has been to storying training or is actively involved in that sphere or orality on a daily basis. We began to advocate for the persecuted church. As ION received a new Executive Director whose first assignment to us as a team was to lead out in the first official “intentional listening time” as a corporate group (50 Days – Easter to Pentecost 2015).

We followed the understanding that the Holy Spirit would lead us. And He most certainly has. It has been a rich time in the Word and together as a team. We began believing for a “Refresh” in January. We are seeing that as the months have flown by. For orality as a network as we gather weekly to listen and pray, we are asking the Father for “the more” for Orality around the globe.

Remembering back to the book by Henry Blackaby,”Experiencing God” and his “Seven Realities of Experiencing God” list introduced in Chapter 6, page 50.

1. God is always at work around you.  2. God pursues a continuing love relationship with you that is real and personal.  3. God invites you to become involved with Him in His work.  4. God speaks by the Holy spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways.  5. God’s invitation for you to work with Him always leads you to a crisis of belief that requires faith in action.  6. You must make major adjustments in your life to join God in what He is doing.  7. You come to know God by experience as you obey Him and He accomplishes His work through you.

We are seeing God at work around the globe. And around our orality network globally!

During the 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting there has been a sensitivity to press in deeper. So as we as a team celebrate our finish of the 10 year milestone we are going to do that.

Beginning August 1st thru August 31st our Core Prayer Team will go silent. We are putting the verse in Psalm 46:10 into place.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”  Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

PicsArt_07-26-08.26.36

We invite you to join us. We are stepping back and going to the quiet zone in preparation for what we believe is coming!

Much is on the horizon for ION and the global orality networks. As we move fully into functioning effectively around the globe, an acceleration of influencing the Body of Christ in greater way is coming. . .

We in prayer are sensing we must prepare. Pulling away to inquire of the Lord. We must ask God for direction in how to pray for the coming season.

Remember the story in 2 Samuel 5:17-25 . .Then David inquired of the Lord. The result is He said, “Like a bursting flood, the Lord has burst out against my enemies before me.” Therefore, he named that place the Lord Bursts Out.”

Then he must go again to inquire of the Lord… God gives a new strategy. We have come so far in the ten years as a team we have been watching and praying. But so much more is about to unfold. We are sensing this is a new season. As prayer strategists, we are know this is a critical time to be about the Father’s kingdom work.

Are you sensing a new season, or are you sensing you need to pull back to just get some quality time with God? The world is noisy right now. So we encourage you to take a day, or a week or join us for a month.

If you need us, send an email, if you want to talk, give us a call… yes a phone call we would love to catch up.

See you in Sept. the countdown to Houston is ticking the days of the calendar off quickly. We look forward to seeing you and hearing your stories and praying together.  Be sure to get registered: http://IONEvents.org

Week 3 ION 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

PicsArt_07-23-10.17.40

July 11th thru July 31st

21 days of prayer and fasting*

Week 3
of our 21 day Daniel Fast

Thank you for being a part of this prayer initiative.

For more information see the ION Website posting: https://orality.net/event/ion-21-days-of-prayer-and-fasting/

As we start week 3, know that the ION Prayer Team is praying for you. We pray that your time during this fast is a time spent asking and sharing with God what you are looking for during this time of prayer. We pray for your intentionality, strengthening of you spirit man and your walk with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Calling by Sarah Young shares, “Relax and let ME lead you through the day. I have everything under control: MY control. You tend to peer anxiously into the day that is before you, trying to figure out what to do, and when. Attentiveness to Me is not only for your quiet time, but for all your time. As you look to Me, I show you what to do now and next. When you let Me direct your steps you are set free to enjoy Me and to find what I have prepared for you this day.

We are praying for you to step into this week afresh and receive a new word from the Father. Enjoy, Be refreshed, Be prepared to follow the Father, as He leads.

I will admit, this 21 days has had its ups and downs… But is yet another bright spot in following the Waymaker as He leads and in finding new things along the way. Not just in the spiritual world, but things like this great shake which is both refreshing and nourishing. PicsArt_07-25-09.57.27

It is simply ice, equal parts of : carrot juice & orange juice and a scoop of protein powder blended together. It resembles the old fashioned Orange Julius!

Week 3
Thank you to all who are praying during our 21 days. No matter what God has told you to do, it is all needed. We appreciate you bringing your portion.

Here is a blog post from one of our ION Partner groups, global prayer coordinator related to prayer and fasting. Thank you Colin Stott for being willing to share your posts with everyone.

“So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.” (Daniel 9:3 NIV)

There are several things that increase our effectiveness in prayer: faith that believes God will do all He has promised; a spirit of praise that blesses God and inhibits the work of the enemy; and a holy life through which God can work unhindered. Imagine how formidable a prayer warrior with such qualities will be to our enemy.

Another component that will make the prayer warrior even more daunting to the enemy is fasting. Why fasting? Fasting allows us to focus more time and energy on prayer. It indicates a willingness to go through some self-denial to advance the kingdom of God. And Jesus told us that some spiritual battles can only be won by a combination of prayer and fasting. (Mark 9:29 KJV)

There are times in our lives for both feasting and fasting. We celebrate special occasions with special meals. Feasting however doesn’t lend itself to serious prayer as does fasting. It is those times when we deny ourselves food that we find the heart and strength to pray with intensity.

While there is no scriptural command to fast as there is for prayer, the Bible assumes we will fast because Matthew 6:16 talks about when we fast, not if we fast. Fasting has been practiced by God’s people throughout the ages and is often associated with sorrow over sin, times of national crisis, the need for revival, and times when special guidance or wisdom is needed. It is also used in preparation for missionary work.

Scripture doesn’t mandate how often or how long we should fast. It is something we do at God’s prompting. Those with health restrictions may need to forgo other necessities instead of food. The thing is that we should fast in secret (except for times of corporate fasting) so as not to show off our “spirituality.” (Matt 6:16-18)

Fasting is hard on the flesh so it is usually easier not to do it. True fasting can only be done in our Lord’s strength and not our own. We should never be legalistic about fasting or think of it as a duty. It is something we do out of love for our Lord and a longing to see Him exalted and adored by all peoples.

Colin is author of ‘Prayer Thoughts,’ a collection of monthly prayer articles to encourage GRN staff in their prayer lives and dealing with various practical aspects of prayer.

John Wesley once said, “God does nothing but in answer to prayer.”

It does seem that God has made prayer indispensable for carrying out His purposes on earth. ‘Prayer Thoughts’ encourages us to grow in our role as intercessors believing God rules the nations through the prayers of His people. What a privilege and responsibility we have in prayer.

The Response: Fasting & Prayer

Fasting is the most powerful spiritual discipline of all the Christian disciplines. Through fasting and prayer, the Holy Spirit can transform your life. Although fasting is always voluntary, scripture is clear that as the people of God we will participate in fasting, but it must come from the place of revelation and personal discipline. Fasting and prayer can also work on a much grander scale. According to Scripture, personal experience and observation, when God’s people fast with a proper Biblical motive-seeking God’s face not His hand – with a broken, repentant, and contrite spirit, God will hear from heaven and heal our lives, our churches, our communities, our nation and world. Fasting and prayer can bring about revival – a change in the direction of our nation, the nations of earth and the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

WHY FAST?

Because Jesus is no longer with us and we were commanded to fast for His return (Matthew 9). When we fast we subdue our flesh and choose voluntary weakness, which is attractive to God. There are so many distractions both positive and negative in our lives that hinder our ability to hear from the Lord clearly. We have set up many idols within the Church that limit our relationship with the Lord and therefore hinder our ability to hear clearly and obey. When we starve the flesh, we increase our ability to feed our spirit! When our flesh is satisfied, our spirit often goes hungry.

Praying for: Oral and Oral Bible-less Peoples

Trouble – Open Doors for the Gospel

Intro: When epidemics or natural disasters strike, or trouble that just comes to individuals and families, the results can be devastating. Often, in the midst of this difficulty and uncertainty there comes an opening for the Gospel.

Scripture: “O LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, “Our fathers possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good.” -Jeremiah 16:19

Prayer: Lord, You are the good shepherd. You look after each one of Your children. You are the only safe refuge and fortress in times of trouble.

Lord, today some of the Oral and Oral Bible-less Peoples are facing trouble they cannot manage. They are in need of Your help. I ask Lord, that You would respond to their need, and come to their aid.

Use this crisis to introduce them to Your goodness. Allow this difficulty to soften their hearts to Your truth. Give them the grace they need to walk away from the god who has failed them and embrace You as their only Lord and Savior. Open their eyes Lord to see You as the lover of their soul, their refuge, and their fortress. In Jesus name, amen.

VOICE OF THE PERSECUTED

July2016 Prayer call Event

(Voice of the Persecuted) I challenge the Christians of the world to pray for their persecuted brothers and sisters, to act on their behalf and to live out the life of Jesus in this needy world around us. Only then we will see a radical change take place in the lives of people. Only then we will see the love of Christ replace the hatred of this world. —Brother Andrew

The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

James 5:16

Does prayer work? Does God really answer prayer?  Does He really answer prayer regarding the persecuted Church?

A little over a year ago a tragedy took place in Charleston, South Carolina.  A demonic crazed gunman walked into an African-American church wanting to start a race war between black and white. The young man was welcomed warmly by the people of that church holding a prayer meeting…

We would ask you to consider joining in a 21 day Daniel Fast. The idea of the Daniel Fast is to honor God above everything else. Why fast? The aim of a Daniel Fast is to grow closer to God. Daniel Fasts usually are called when extraordinary needs are in front of you.

We believe extraordinary times are upon us and for that we need clarity of mind. We need a more sharpened awareness of God and what God is doing throughout the earth. We believe fasting results in a greater intimacy with the Father. At this time in history we see the tasks before us as nothing more than an “only God can do” time.

prayer & fasting

We are calling you to join in this extended time of prayer and fasting during the time frame of July 11th-31st, 2016.

Looking to God for clarity and purpose for those connected to ION and for those who are even now being prepared by God to be a part into the future. We know many more voices are needing to be heard in the orchestra of orality across the face of the globe. We also are asking for the identification of trumpet blowers, those who are and will advocate for oral peoples, mobilizers in the different areas associated with orality. Believing for new and solid Gateways to be open now and into the future for the sake of taking the gospel to where there are those who still wait. Praying for Scripture in the every and all, for full Bibles and no more Bible Poverty. For accelerated methods and accurate Bible translation for all those mother tongue and heart languages that still do not have ONE VERSE. Praying for Gateway Leaders in all 7 focus areas/gateways. Praying for those involved in orality to be fully immersed in Bible Engagement daily. To maintain the centrality of all we do to be the Bible -the WORD.

We are linking together in a united call of agreement for what the Lord says as the Waymaker in Isaiah 43:16-19, He who made a way. . . He is even now making a way in the desert wilderness and streams and rivers in the wasteland.

July 5: Jesus Calling by Sarah Young

DRAW NEAR TO ME with a thankful heart, aware that your cup is overflowing with blessings. Gratitude enables you to perceive Me more clearly and to rejoice in our Love-relationship. Nothing can separate you from My loving Presence! That is the basis of your security. Whenever you start to feel anxious, remind yourself that your security rests in Me alone, and I am totally trustworthy. . . [Read today’s full devotion in the book, “Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence” by Sarah Young (Thomas Nelson)]

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. —ROMANS 8:38–39

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? —PSALM 56:3–4

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. —ISAIAH 43:19

Steps Before Starting the Daniel Diet Fast -By Donna Sundblad

Reviewed by Annette McDermott, Certified in Food, Nutrition and Health

Source: http://diet.lovetoknow.com/fasting-detox-diets/steps-starting-daniel-diet-fast

While some people may try the Daniel fast for weight loss purposes, for most it is meant to be a spiritual experience that draws them closer to God. The fast is a partial fast based on accounts found in the biblical book of Daniel, of a time when Daniel refused to eat the king’s food to follow God’s ways.

Before You Start the Daniel Fast

Instead of eating from the king’s bounty, Daniel opted to eat only vegetables and water. His decision to do so is a lesson for people today in learning to deny self and to seek God’s will.

For anyone thinking of embarking on this spiritual/physical journey, there are some things to consider before you begin. Take into consideration the influence such a change in diet will have on your body. For example, caffeine withdrawal can lead to side effects such as severe migraine-type headaches and nausea. Eliminating sugar from the diet all at once may also lead to undesirable symptoms as the body detoxifies.

The most common symptoms associated with the Daniel fast include:

Headaches
Fatigue
Leg cramps
Malaise

Six Steps to Prepare

Susan Gregory, author of The Daniel Fast, indicates on her website that it’s important to prepare for extended fasting to help prevent negative side effects. The following steps can help prepare you mentally and physically.

Wean off caffeine and sugar: With possible side effects in mind, one of the first steps for starting the Daniel Diet fast should be to wean off caffeine and sugar before you start the fast to avoid these debilitating symptoms.

Eat lighter meals a few days before you begin: Eating lighter meals that are lower in calories and fat helps prepare your stomach for less food intake. If you’re not used to eating fresh fruits and vegetables or legumes, begin incorporating them into your meals. This will help your body gradually adjust to a higher intake of fiber.

How long to fast: Decide how long you plan to follow the fast. As a partial fast, the body does get adequate nutrition and can be followed for weeks. It is typically followed for 21 days.

Check with your doctor: Check with your doctor before starting the Daniel Diet. Let your doctor know what you’ll be eating and how long you plan to follow the fast. Your doctor will know your medical history and whether or not the fast should be modified in some way to fit your physical needs.

Pray: The Daniel fast is a physical as well as a spiritual experience. Through prayer, the dieter should ask for God’s guidance and strength as they prepare to deny self and battle physical cravings.

Set spiritual goals: Also as a matter of prayer, spiritual goals to be accomplished while fasting should be set. These often include prayer, Bible reading, study and meditation.

Stock your kitchen: The Daniel Diet is a fast that limits many foods. Before you get started, stock your kitchen with an ample supply of the foods you’ll need for the fast.

Adequately Prepare for Best Results

The Daniel fast isn’t as much about the food as it is about the spiritual journey to become closer to God. It helps take the focus off food and material things and places it on things eternal and the relationship one has with God. The fast is quite challenging so it’s important to adequately prepare for it to be successful. Not preparing might lead you to stop the program before you’ve achieved your spiritual goals.

At this time in history we see the tasks before us as nothing more than an “only God can do” time. The concept of the fast comes from Daniel 1:8-14, “But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine. . .” The backstory to this is in 2 Kings 24:13-14.

The Workers Are Few:

Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:35-38 Screenshot_2016-06-19-22-11-30-1

The fields ARE ripe unto harvest. God’s heart is for every and all peoples to have the opportunity to come to know Him and have the opportunity to receive the gift of salvation because of His Son.

Prayer brings us directly into the larger perspective of what God is doing!

Jesus’ solution was always prayer. Prayer changes things!

When we pray, we recognize that prayer…

  • Ushers us into God’s presence
  • Reveals God’s plans
  • Obeys Jesus’ command to ask the Lord of the Harvest to send workers.
  • Invites God’s presence
  • Removes hindrances to the gospel
  • Prepares hearts to hear and respond
  • Releases resources
  • Gives protection for all
  • Releases spiritual power
  • Exercises divine authority to change situations and people
  • Prayer IS the battle, and prayer brings the victory.

Praying Effectively:

  • Pray that believers will see the hearts among every least-reached people group that are ready to hear and respond to the Gospel.  John 4:35
  • Pray that the Lord of the Harvest will send laborers into His Harvest fields.  Luke 10:2
  • Pray that the Lord will help the Body of Christ to labor together in the unity of the Spirit to bring good news where it’s never been heard before.  1 Cor. 3:9
  • Pray that God will supply and multiply the resources necessary to support His workers and their work.  2 Cor. 9:8-11
  • Pray for 100-fold fruit that remains for God’s glory and transforms each group by its presence.  Matt. 4:20 (See: http://www.globalprn.com/praying-for-the-unreached/)

How to pray specifically for Oral and Oral Bibleless People:

  • The remaining Unreached Unengaged People Groups are predominantly oral societies
  • Shifting our understanding to include prayer for the Oral and Oral Bibleless
  • Realizing that large portions of the globe still do not have access to Scripture
  • Learning to pray for those who communicate in oral ways or prefer oral methods
  • Ask God to teach us to understand the needs of oral communicators
  • Recognizing that they need to hear the gospel story in a different way or format
  • Praying for God to use technology to bring His story to the masses of this day
  • Praying for the day when there are ZERO peoples left to hear the name of Jesus
  • Praying for gateways and new pathways

We are asking for prayer in these specific ION Gateways:

  • Research Innovations
  • Education
  • Media
  • Art & Culture
  • Development
  • Focused Outreach
  • Storying

See more at: https://orality.net/networks/gateways/

Technology is opening doors that previously have not been available. Repositories of Scripture are available through the internet like Bible.is and YouVersion. There are websites such as OneStory: Listen Now http://www.onestory-media.org/ that offer multiple language story sets and  Afghan Radio: The Sound of Life http://afghanradio.org/en/scripture/oral-bible-stories where God’s Word is available in the Dari language. God is making a way.

Over the past few years we have seen a shift in our network of ION to be given the opportunity to influence the Body of Christ to make disciples of oral learners in ways that go far beyond our original ideas of orality. For the past several summers theological schools have been hosting ION Theological Consultations to discuss and bring awareness in the seminary world of the reality of oral learners in their classrooms. And discussions are wide open in regard to formal and non-formal theological education. Please continue to pray for more open doors such as this.

God the “WayMaker” of Isaiah 43 is making a way, where in the past it seemed as if there was no way. [Isaiah 43:14-21]

Prayer Mobilization:

The focus has shifted us from what “we are doing” to “what God is up to.” Moving into a fuller appreciation and operation of being God centered and Spirit driven. Remembering the 18 months in praying for the Unengaged Unreached People Groups (UUPG) listing, name by name. We linked it to the larger prayer initiative of Ethne/Harvest Prayer (see a sample from Dec. 2013 ION Prayer Focus). We did not give up, but we continued to press in calling others to join to pray for each people group to have SOMEONE who would be willing to reach toward them.  Pray for more workers in the area of prayer mobilization. The Body of Christ needs to be mobilized to pray in this area into the future.

Commitment to Pray in a different way:

From that 18 months, we began to ask God, “How do we pray for the oral peoples of the globe?” In October 2014, we began to ask the intercessors and pray-ers to move into a different format of prayer. To listen to the Bible in 90 Days (https://orality.net/prayer/bible-in-90-days-prayer-initiative/) as a way of connecting to oral peoples and those peoples who do not yet have Scripture in their heart language or mother tongue. Wondering what it might be like for Scripture engagement to involve listening and praying. Asking more boldly for God to send the workers into His harvest fields in the area of Bible translation.

The reality of the need for a new strategy of prayer:

How is it that after 2000 years, still not everyone has access or the ability to hear of Jesus Christ? How is it possible that those of us in the West have stacks of Bibles in our homes and there are still 1,778 peoples who do not have one verse? As we allowed God to open our ear gates to His Word, something different began to happen. God began to bring a greater reality to us of the 5.7 Billion people (with over half of those numbers being children) not having the same access to Scripture that we knew, it shifted us. It shifted our prayers.

God’s heart is for the every and all to have access to Him and to hear the name of Jesus.

He can and will bring a new awakening to the Body of Christ. We are believing that the Body is being reset this year of 2016, the year of REFRESH. Having finished a year of intentional listening, we acknowledge that as we shift into this second half of the year, we are allowing Him to recalibrate us.

We are asking God for some very big things. He is a very big God! The globalization of ION is upon us as a network. Praise God, we are seeing people all over the globe catch the vision of reaching the oral peoples.

As July unfolds we would ask you to come alongside in prayer. Prayer and fasting is the key to moving into next levels. That reminds us of a story. After the experience of Transfiguration, the disciples had the opportunity to come to a new awareness of what would be needed. You remember the story in Mark 9. They tried unsuccessfully to deliver the young boy, but to no avail. “After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer and fasting.” And this same story back in Matthew 17, Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”But this kind doesn’t come out except by prayer and fasting.”

Do you know how you fit into being a part of God’s Great Commission plan:

Screenshot_2016-06-24-14-53-43-1Prayer is a part of His foundation, because of who we are as sons and daughters of God.

We must help everyone feel able and needed to pray.

We must “demystify” the call to prayer as being something more than what it is. . .

Prayer is simply part of our ordinary life as a believer.

Have you thought of yourself as a prayer mobilizer or a prayer strategist? In the Scriptures, many times, those who lead in prayer also mobilized prayer. They too, were the ones who brought the strategy of prayer to the people. We are in a very critical time in the history of the church. It will take everyone doing their part and being willing to link together in the area of prayer to pray in those who still wait. We invite you to the conversation at: https://prayerstrategists.net/

Screenshot_2016-06-19-22-08-06-1

Prayer is not a formality, but a responsibility of every believer.

Prayer is not a department or a small group who “takes care of our prayer requests.”

In prayer we must allow ourselves to simply “be” with Him. To understand prayer as the foundation of everything we do is critical for every believer and every group involved in the work of God.

Prayer is essential to the work of God. It is His work.

Screenshot_2016-06-19-22-22-34-1-1Prayer is how we come into agreement with Him. That takes listening to Him and trusting Him fully.

Trusting the Holy Spirit for the power to accomplish, because we simply join the Son as He intercedes to the Father.

Screenshot_2016-06-24-14-53-59-1

As a son of God we join in prayer for the Every and All.

Join in believing God is able to finish in and through His body what He has set before us.

“Prayer as described and modeled in the Bible is a two-way conversation between the believer and God, guided and empowered by the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ Our Mediator. Praying without ceasing practices the presence of God as we go through our days and nights aware of and in communion with Him. Extraordinary prayer is understood to be one of the foundational principles of church planting or disciple-making movements.”

As we continue to link together, we link globally with other prayer leaders. Another one of our ION Prayer network partners is Global Prayer Resource Network. GPRN is a wonderful place to find out about global prayer initiatives and what God is doing across the world in prayer.

JUNE 2016: ION Prayer Focus Guide

Here we are at the 1/2 year mark of 2016. Wow! Time is moving, time is ticking. .  .

PicsArt_05-29-08.46.12Yet at the same time in the middle of it all, it seems so slow. Sometimes we do not take the time to stop and look at where we are as things are moving so fast. But when we do, it is always a treat to look back and see the hand of God right in the middle of it all.

50 days of prayerOne year ago, we were ending our 5o Days to Pentecost Prayer Initiative (https://ionprayer.com/2015/04/06/ion-pentecost-prayer-initiative-50-days-easter-to-pentecost-7-weeks7-topics/).

As our ION Core Prayer Team looks out into today and into tomorrow, we are seeing and we are believing for the answers. In this year of “REFRESH”, we are believing for the MORE. Yet still not all is in full view, so to speak. We see God’s activity and His answers are upon us. Things are moving at mock speed in many ways. Can we pause and stop to take note?!

We want to ask you to link in prayer for what God is doing in and with those involved in Orality around the globe. As we share the picture of what God is doing in and on behalf of the Oral and Oral Bible-less that you might not be aware of in the world of Orality.

4 New Focus Areas

  1. Global Positioning
  2. NEXT Generation – Students and Younger Adults
  3. Media-ization – Getting the Story out
  4. Maintaining the centrality of all we do to be the Bible – The WORD

What does it look like to move out into these areas?

  • Fresh Vision
  • Looking out & seeking out to those who may not yet be a part of ION
  • Focus our listening – intentionally focusing on hearing
  • Exploring Needs
  • Discover God’s View
  • Seeing the Potential
  • Serving Effectively and Stewarding the Sacred Gift  – fostering and encouraging a Global Orality Movement

PTAP Praying Thru the Arabian PeninsulaIntroducing a Ramadan Prayer Guide…

As Muslims pray and fast during Ramadan, we pray for them.
Ramadan is June 6 – July 5, 2016

Introduction
Every year most Muslims fast for a month from sunrise to sunset. Muslims follow the lunar calendar. In 2016, Ramadan likely will begin June 6 and end on July 5.
Christians serving in the Arab Muslim world are asking you to pray specifically during this time frame as Muslims take the month to fast. Muslims eat at night during Ramadan, but this fast is a challenge and many take it as a spiritual time. We pray Muslims will come to know Jesus Christ during this month focused on prayer and fasting. In this prayer guide, you will find suggested Scriptures to pray through. Many prayer points are from Christians living in each country, and there are prayers of blessing for these nations. Isaiah 58:1-12 is a great Scripture to read to understand more about fasting. This prayer guide was created by OM. The prayer guide is free and you are welcome to share it. PTAP will send out an email on the dates the countries in our region overlap with the larger prayer guide.
Please download the complete daily Ramadan Prayer Guide from PTAP at:

Grateful for PTAP & their 18 years of sharing and advocating for the 30 Days of Prayer. To connect to them visit: http://www.pray-ap.info/

JOIN Prayercast on a prayer journey across the Muslim world during Ramadan.  We are bombarded almost daily with news of barbaric acts of terrorism. But if all we know about Islam is what we see on the news, we are missing an incredible story:
  • The greatest turning of Muslims to Christ in history is happening NOW.
  • Everywhere Islam exists people are being drawn to Jesus Christ.
  • This is happening in direct correlation to increased movements of prayer.
God is MOVING and He’s inviting YOU to join Him. Now is the time to PRAY because Jesus loves and died to save every one of the 1.6 billion Muslims in the world today.

From 6 June – 5 July Muslims will intentionally seek Allah during the month of Ramadan*, presenting powerful opportunities for encounters with Jesus
Would you join believers around the world in strategic prayer for Muslims by committing to the Prayercast Ramadan Challenge? We ask two things:
  1. Pray with us as we focus on different regions and nations each day for 28 days.
  2. Invite at least one friend to join you.
As we prepare for the month of Ramadan, let’s pray along with a former radical Muslim who is now a follower of Jesus – that Muslims around the world would encounter Jesus as they fast and pray.
Together let’s watch and pray,
The Prayercast Team
*Ramadan is one of the months of the Muslim calendar, landing on 6 June-5 July this year. During this month Muslims around the world will intentionally seek Allah through prayer and fasting – one of Islam’s five pillars – the most important requirements of their faith. Abstaining from earthly pleasures, they seek the cleansing of their souls from sin.

Praying for: Oral and Oral Bible-less Peoples

Pray for Unreached Peoples
Revelation for a Pioneer

Intro: In every people group there are pioneers who are ready to break with their culture and tradition, and explore something new. Our prayers can focus the attention of the Holy Spirit on one of these pioneers.

Scripture: Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. -1 Chronicles 16:24

Prayer: Lord, You are God over all the earth, Your kingdom extends beyond the heavens. There is no one more worthy of praise than You. You are God, and there is no one else.

Lord I lift up the pioneers among the Oral and Oral Bible-less Peoples, those who have a drive to explore new places and new ideas. Who are not satisfied with what is, but are always longing for what could be.

Holy Spirit, I ask that today you would visit one of these pioneers and spark in their mind the revelation they need to embrace the Good News of Jesus. Fuel their heart for discovery to seek Your truth, and Your face.

Break them free from traditions and superstitions, and stir their pioneering spirit to search for the one true God, and to carve a path for others to follow. In Jesus mighty name, amen.

Let us know you prayed…

A day, in the Presence in the prayer room

PicsArt_05-20-12.27.58 (1).jpgLooking toward the beginning of the 6th month, pondering  the rest of 2016. . .
At the beginning of the year, the Lord gave us the word “REFRESH” for 2016. He began speaking this beginning in December as I looked into what the ION Prayer Focus might be going into the new year for January.
Continuing in the message of “wait” was my answer. For the past 8 years I had been in the habit of writing prayer focus guides for ION. Originally weekly, then twice monthly and in the last few years it has been a monthly prayer focus guide. That all was been put in “wait” mode as we entered into 2016. God has been working on me as to what is really needed. Is it my habit, or is it His guiding?!?
Let me give you some background. For over the past two years, our core prayer team has been walking out James 1:2-8
James 1:2-8 The Christian can even welcome trouble  (J.B. Phillips) When all kinds of trials and temptations crowd into your lives my brothers, don’t resent them as intruders, but welcome them as friends! Realize that they come to test your faith and to produce in you the quality of endurance. But let the process go on until that endurance is fully developed, and you will find you have become men of mature character with the right sort of independence. And if, in the process, any of you does not know how to meet any particular problem he has only to ask God—who gives generously to all men without making them feel foolish or guilty—and he may be quite sure that the necessary wisdom will be given him. But he must ask in sincere faith without secret doubts as to whether he really wants God’s help or not. The man who trusts God, but with inward reservations, is like a wave of the sea, carried forward by the wind one moment and driven back the next. That sort of man cannot hope to receive anything from God, and the life of a man of divided loyalty will reveal instability at every turn.
James 1:2-8  (VOICE) Don’t run from tests and hardships, brothers and sisters. As difficult as they are, you will ultimately find joy in them; if you embrace them, your faith will blossom under pressure and teach you true patience as you endure. And true patience brought on by endurance will equip you to complete the long journey and cross the finish line—mature, complete, and wanting nothing. If you don’t have all the wisdom needed for this journey, then all you have to do is ask God for it; and God will grant all that you need. He gives lavishly and never scolds you for asking.
Wisdom, as James understands it, is the ability to live life well and make good decisions. Wisdom doesn’t come from old age or hard knocks. Wisdom begins with knowing and depending absolutely on God, who is never stingy when it comes to wisdom for those who seek it. He supplies all the wisdom we need when we ask. But when we try to go it alone—without God—trouble is around the corner.
The key is that your request be anchored by your single-minded commitment to God. Those who depend only on their own judgment are like those lost on the seas, carried away by any wave or picked up by any wind. Those adrift on their own wisdom shouldn’t assume the Lord will rescue them or bring them anything. The splinter of divided loyalty shatters your compass and leaves you dizzy and confused.
We will be the first to confess, this has not been an easy time for any of us. But we will also be the ones to say God has been right in the middle of all this with us! And we are stronger for these days. In the midst of all of the trials, tests and hardships a new level of TRUSTING GOD, comes in the chaos.
God is in the chaos. . .
It is He who can give us the correct perspective in the middle of the storm, but we must look to Him (and Him alone). Have you been in the midst of some trials? What if it is God working on your maturity or the maturity of those around you. This is a body issue, the whole body of Christ is in the midst of understanding their true identity and what must happen to REFRESH. A recalibration is needed. A recalibration is happening!
Understanding our true identity in sonship. . .
1 John 5:20 – And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, [even] in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
Luke 1:35 – And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
John 3:16 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 8:10-12  – In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters; in the assembly I will sing your praises.”
Romans 8:16 – The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God
Sons of God, hear the Father’s voice, Sons of God speak what the Father tells them to speak, Sons of God do what the Father tells them to do. Hearing Him is critical. Being of Him and people of prayer is key for this season. We have heard His voice and are in a new place of hearing Him. Hearing Him call us and others to pray and to lead others to pray into the future for those who still wait to hear God’s name and to have an opportunity to follow His Son. Only through the work of the Holy Spirit will that happen. So this week after Pentecost, we continue to cry out. . .
Habakkuk 2:1-3  (WEB) – I will stand at my watch, and set myself on the ramparts, and will look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.  Yahweh answered me, “Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who runs may read it.  For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hurries toward the end, and won’t prove false. Though it takes time, wait for it; because it will surely come. It won’t delay.
Habakkuk 2:14 (WEB) – For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of Yahweh’s glory, as the waters cover the sea.
Habakkuk 3:1-2 (WEB) [God Racing on the Crest of the Waves] A prayer of the prophet Habakkuk, with orchestra: God, I’ve heard what our ancestors say about you, and I’m stopped in my tracks, down on my knees. Do among us what you did among them. Work among us as you worked among them. And as you bring judgment, as you surely must, remember mercy.
As we round the corner to the coming of the first of June and the beginning of the second half of the year, it is becoming more clear! God is in the quieting of us down so to speak.
When we look back to where we were a year ago this week (at the last week of our 50 days of intentional listening prayer initiative) we see God is answering our prayers. He has shifted us in many ways, yet the vision remains the same.  Read more about the vion of ION here: https://orality.net/about/#vision
Coming into focus are some spectacular stories of what God He is doing out in His Harvest field. We are delighted at the opportunity to join Him in His activity.

Scripture App for the Amis: Taiwan

A pilot project was launched recently by Wycliffe Taiwan among the Amis community, one of the largest language groups in the country. The project aims to provide the Amis people an app so they can access Scriptures easily in text and audio forms. Once the Amis project is completed, similar projects will be started in other people groups. Thank God for Taiwan Bible Society and the Amis churches who are the key partners in this project. Pray also for the 16 language communities in Taiwan. Pray that they would all have access to God’s Word and know Him as the Author of hope, love and life.

Over the past three summers a translation team has worked with local believers from a small people group in Siberia to craft a set of 30 oral Bible stories. Praise God that the believers who helped the team enjoyed the work so much they practiced translating verses from the Bible while the team was away. They told them, “You have helped to redeem our language for the church. Now we talk, pray and sing in church all the time in our mother tongue!”

Thinking back to the prayer room when Morgan Jackson came into our ION Prayer Room and shared what they would be doing in a goal of every heart language having the New Testament in Audio format available. WOW! Look at what God has been doing. So very grateful for the opportunities to come alongside our ION Partner groups in prayer.
PRAISE GOD for this movement of putting the Scriptures into every heart language. Now lets continue to come alongside the work of groups like Faith Comes By Hearing and ask for continued favor.
Let’s pray big and set our hearts together to pray for the whole Bible in every language. We have seen God do remarkable things over this past 10 years as the ION Prayer Team. You are invited to join in asking. . .

How Can We Pray for the Least-Reached?

We would like to introduce you to a fellow blog… “How Can We Pray for the Least-Reached”
By Fellowship of Prayer Strategists at http://prayerstrategists.net

How can we pray effectively? Begin with these five simple prayers based on scripture:

SEE: Pray that believers will see the hearts among every least-reached people group that are ready to hear and respond to the Gospel (John 4:35).
SEND: Pray that the Lord of the Harvest will send laborers among these “no-choice” peoples (Luke 10:2).
UNITY: Pray that the Lord will help the Body of Christ to labor together in the unity of the Spirit to bring good news where it’s never been heard before (1 Cor. 3:9).
SUPPLY: Pray that God will supply and multiply the resources necessary to support His workers and their work (2 Cor. 9:8-11).
SUCCESS: Pray for 100-fold fruit that remains for God’s glory, transforming each group (Matt. 4:20).
From the rising of the sun to its going down, the Name of the Lord is to be praised. The effective, fervent prayers of a righteous man avail much! Join hands with God and believers around the world month by month moving from east to west in this Harvest-Linked Prayer Strategy (HeLPS), peoples joining together to glorify God among all peoples…Ethne to Ethne…Pass it on…in your own network…in your own language.

“Look at the nations and watch – and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”  — Habakkuk 1:5

What is the problem?

2,000 years ago Jesus commanded His disciples, “Go make disciples of all ‘nations’.” More than 6,800 of the 16,000 “ethnê” or ethnic groups living today, to which He referred, lack a community of believers with adequate numbers and resources to successfully fulfil His command. Simply stated, 1 in 4 people remain without reasonable access to the gospel—The Forgotten One Fourth World! This simply means that, although there may be a few believers or even a few churches, they are a people group among which there is no indigenous community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to evangelize their own people group.

Where are they?

These groups…
