what we all need to know when the storms come –Reblog: http://JenniferDukesLee.com/Tell-His-Story

14355670_10157424019075114_1744411447704584294_nHi. This is the version of me who ran through a literal storm last week. In this picture, I am clearly and completely soaked, as if I had jumped into the lake that I was walking around. But I didn’t jump in the lake. The skies opened, and out poured a storm. When it hit, [… click here to read the full story …]

Jesus said this: “But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

You are an overcomer. You may be storm-stained, weary from the battle. But you know what? You are not knocked down. You are not destroyed. You are brave, and our God is an irrepressible force within you.

Whatever storm you are in this week, may you have the courage to take the next step, and then the next step after that.

The way out of the storm is THROUGH. One step at a time.

There are many opportunities to remember God’s storm stories in the midst of trials. Bible Gateway also has a great blog posted that relates:

What the Bible Says About Storms

. . . “One day God revealed himself to Elijah the prophet in an unusual way:

“Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’” (1 Kings 19:11-13).

God is not a storm, but storms do remind us that there are forces so much stronger than us. A strong storm is a reminder that we need a God who is stronger than the storm:

“The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea—the LORD on high is mighty” (Psalm 93:3-4).” – Read this blog at: https://www.biblegateway.com/blog/2012/10/what-the-bible-says-about-storms/

Father, we thank You, not matter what the physical, spiritual or mental storm is that we are experiencing, that YOU ARE ALREADY in it. This year the term “God is in the Chaos” has come up frequently. It has allowed our ION Prayer Teams to remember back to the accounts in His Story of God’s faithfulness to be right there with us. We say, “We will rest in Your Faithfulness as the storm seems to be upon us and trust in You.” In Jesus name. Amen.

Can we stop today and think of the storm stories that allow us to call upon the One spoken about in Matthew 8:27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” — ION Prayer Team

Intentional Listening & Prayer

PicsArt_08-28-12.05.42

For the past year and a half our core prayer team has been have been going through a specific time of intentional listening and prayer. As we have walked through this period of time, it is becoming more clear to us of our need as the body of Christ to listen more, especially in the midst of prayer.

Have you thought about how people pray when we are “praying together” as a group?

Have you taken some time for Intentionally Listening?

How hard is it for pray-ers, intercessors to be quiet and to be one who is intentionally listening, especially in the area of prayer!

We should be thinking about being intentional in prayer. Which should cause us to think before we pray. . .

Reminds me of a story –A story of how God showed the need to listen and the need to speak. He is calling us right now, for such a time as this. [Esther 4:14]

Most of the time we just start praying and fall into the trap of praying the same old, same old prayers. Even getting stuck in the patterns that we are comfortable in.

Look at Paul’s prayer portions that have been recorded in Romans:

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. [Romans 15:5–6]

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. [Romans 15:13]

I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me. Pray that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in Judea and that my service in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints there, so that by God’s will I may come to you with joy and together with you be refreshed. The God of peace be with you all. Amen. [Romans 15:30–33]

It does not sound like Paul was stuck in his prayers!

For the month of August our core prayer team took some significant time for intentional listening and prayer. We have been asking God what it is HE WANTS TO SAY TO US as we pray for those things that He is putting before us to say words for, in our times of prayer and prayer times with Him. It really is about time in prayer with Him.

PicsArt_08-28-11.58.45Looking into the end of this year and what is on the horizon was a key area of interest to us.

Let me share a short part of what I have been hearing as I have been listening intently this past month. Asking the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to allow vision out onto the prophetic horizon. [Just beyond what we already know in the physical -to what God sees in the world of eternity. . . we look at thing differently than God does with our segmented “Eternity past, Eternity current & Eternity future” mode of seeing the world. God’s picture of Eternity is one whole picture. Much like His one whole picture of the Bible.

Asking for help to move us from those who see segments, to a larger perspective of one who looks at the whole picture. So that we might know better how to effectively pray.

HARVEST

There is a tsunami on The horizon… It is looming off in the future, but beginning to show itself. It is the Harvest, a huge harvest…

Critical Times, My Sheep

In fact the sheep have wandered… they are not familiar with the Shepherd’s voice. Some have bought into the lie that they cannot hear or understand what the Shepherd is saying to them. “The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice.” [John 10:3-4] “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” [John 10:27] “But you don’t believe me because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish.” [John 10:26-28]

Keep looking to Me, Keep abiding, Keep asking

The Lord is telling us in this season, “Don’t look to the things of the past or the former things, for behold, I am doing a new thing. Do you not perceive it?” [Isaiah 43:18-19. It is a new season, a season of the new, and of the MORE. A season of different. Prepare to be enlarged… “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left.” [Isaiah 54:2-3] “Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. [Matthew 7:7] “So I say to you, keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. [Luke 11:9]

How thirsty are we?

“Come, everyone who thirsts, to the waters! Come, all who have nothing to give… who want to receive! Listen diligently and let your soul delight itself in richness… Seek Yahweh while he may be found. Call on him while he is near.” [Isaiah 55:1-6] “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways.” This is the Lord’s declaration. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so My ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” [Isaiah 55:8-9]

Can we trust Him in bringing the CAPACITY for the “NEXT SEASON”?

The Lord is the equipper. It is He who brings the ability to have capacity. He is opening the Harvest. It is a time for all who dwell with Him. Do not fear, He will not leave us. “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them”. [Isaiah 42:16] “This is a great and exciting time!” [Psalm 18:19]

Step in

“I have given you every place where the sole of your foot treads, just as I promised Moses.” [Joshua 1:3] “God has commanded us, ‘Be strong and very courageous’.” [Joshua 1:9] “Do not look back; only go forward into the new.” [John 8:36] God is taking us INTO the “next”.

God is always in the Chaos -Learn to rest in Him in the middle of it all!

Winds of change are blowing… God is in the chaos, He always has been. Remembering back to the time of the disciples questioning him when he was in the back of the boat, fast asleep on a pillow in the middle of the storm, “Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they *woke Him and *said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” [Mark 4:38] We must learn to rest, even in the midst of the storm, the shift or the change.

Praying for the body of Christ to allow the Father full access, time to work in and through us, as we trust Him for the capacity that will be needed for the more that is coming.

Capacity

ca·pac·i·ty

[kəˈpasədē]

NOUN
  1. the maximum amount that something can contain
    • fully occupying the available area or space
    • the amount that something can produce
  2. the ability or power to do, experience, or understand something
  3. a specified role or position

What is the Word for us today?

May we be those who believe for “the maximum amount that we might contain of Him… allowing Him to fully occupy us with what He produces. To have the ability and power to do, experience and understand Him. Be His CAPACITY for such a time as this!

Jesus spoke in parables 34 Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables, and He would not speak anything to them without a parable, 35 so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled: I will open My mouth in parables; I will declare things kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Jesus Interprets the Wheat and the Weeds 36 Then He dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached Him and said, “Explain the parable of the weeds in the field to us.” 37 He replied: “The One who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; 38 the field is the world; and the good seed—these are the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sowed them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. 40 Therefore, just as the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather from His kingdom everything that causes sin and those guilty of lawlessness. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. Anyone who has ears should listen! [Matthew 13:34-43]

Where are the Elijah’s in Prayer?

ION has a solid foundation of an invisible, yet tangible platform of prayer.

1 Kings 19… This story brings the reality of the Church and those who Pray right to the forefront of where we are today. For some time now my heart has been grieving with the Father for those who have in many ways done what Elijah did. They are hunkered in their caves and are tired, worn out from the battle of their journey. As trapped as they are, they like Elijah that day have not yet hit the point of being ready to move to the front of the cave to “notice what God is doing”.

They like Elijah are afraid. Unwilling even to notice that God is still encountering them. But through a series of visits and conversations, God is able to speak and be heard by Elijah.

There are masses out there that want to be all of what God has called them to be, but are like Elijah was huddled into seclusion, weary, sometimes even having lost hope for what God called them to. But, when Elijah finally gives notice and listens, God with great patience finally gives the strategythe path forward for him. This sets in motion the next set of items in God’s agenda.

In the end, “God was not in the wind, not in the earthquake or in the fire, but He spoke after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper.”

You remember the story. . .

Elijah’s Encounter with the Lord

Then the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” [Elijah gives his excuse in verse 10]

10 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of Hosts, but . . .” [THEN GOD GIVES HIS FIRST INSTRUCTION OF THE ENCOUNTER]

11 Then He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the Lord’s presence.” [And the Lord moves]

At that moment, the Lord passed by. A great and mighty wind was tearing at the mountains and was shattering cliffs before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was a voice, a soft whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave.

Suddenly, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” [Again, Elijah brings his same excuse]

14 “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of Hosts,” he replied, “but. . .” [Then the Lord speaks direction/strategy]

15 Then the Lord said to him, “Go and return by the way you came to the Wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive, . . . 18 But I will leave 7,000 in Israel—every knee that has not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.”

[Back to the story, then the shift happens in the story. Look at verses 19-20]

Elisha’s Appointment as Elijah’s Successor

19 Elijah left there and found Elisha son of Shaphat as he was plowing. Twelve teams of oxen were in front of him, and he was with the twelfth team. Elijah walked by him and threw his mantle over him. 20 Elisha left the oxen, ran to follow Elijah, and said, “Please let me kiss my father and mother, and then I will follow you.”

“Go on back,” he replied, “for what have I done to you?” [Did you catch that Elisha already knew what the cloak was and what it meant!]

21 So he turned back from following him, took the team of oxen, and slaughtered them. With the oxen’s wooden yoke and plow, he cooked the meat and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he left, followed Elijah, and served him. [We finish with verse 21, so Elisha left; he uses his former makes a true feast to say goodbye to his family. Then he leaves to follow Elijah and becomes Elijah’s lead. The Spirit of Elijah is needed in this hour. The fullness of those who will be set in place to take the next season are needing to put their mantles on. Some are needing someone to come alongside them and cause them to take note of what God is doing and how they might fit in.]

Thinking about this story is the background for this article on UUPGs, Prayer & Orality (including the portion of God speaking through the Word, circumstances, people, etc.). What if we understood more fully. What if God might hold a portion of the anointing such as that of releasing of the “putting on the mantle” of praying for uupgs and a lifestyle of continual prayer, such as what happened in this setting? God used Elijah to set in place Elisha. A “setting in place” in verse 21, that could not have been undone from occurring. And even more, it was the catalyst for the fire that left him no return to the things of old?!

_________________________________________________________

When we began to pray for and with ION, it started because an Elijah type came to us and shared the mantle of prayer with us. That started a fire, a chain reaction for us individually and for us as group. It was what we often refer to as the “strap yourself in” you are getting ready to ride outside of this atmosphere as you begin to step in to pray for this work of God. The pattern is similar to what is described in Psalm 40:5

Lord my God, You have done many things—Your wonderful works and Your plans for us; none can compare with You. If I were to report and speak of them, they are more than can be told.

Along the way, prayer has given birth to many shifts. It has caused the reality of paradigm shifts that has affected many areas. Some of that has affected how we do prayer. And how we pray together corporately and individually.

As we began to be engaged in praying primarily for Oral & Bibleless Peoples (an intentional shift we took in 2014), we began to move in oral methods as a team. We sensed the need to take our community of prayer to a whole new level. We began to advocate for the use of audio Scripture daily. To use Bible Storytelling in our prayer times. Many of our prayer team has been involved in storying training or is actively involved in that some sphere of orality on a daily basis. Some are simply those with a heart in prayer for Orality!

UUPG – Orality – Prayer – A little history on ION Prayer. . .

There is a small group who started out praying for one executive (Avery Willis) who introduced us to a whole new world. The world of seeing the LOST, those peoples who still were waiting to hear the life changing news of the Gospel and God’s great gift of salvation through Christ Jesus. From that small group, God launched a global group who link in united prayer each week.

While we started out praying alongside one executive, God allowed the more. In addition to the work of Orality around the globe, we have been blessed to behind the scenes pray for the group of executives that quietly continue to meet three times a year that emerged out of Amsterdam 2000. These managing partners are working collaboratively together ZERO. Zero people groups that have not heard the Gospel. They continue to work toward having every people group with someone working on a strategy of getting the Gospel in where previously there was no one wanting to go to.

Remembering back to the beginning, hearing of this listing of people groups who each had over 100,000 people in their populations and in which NO ONE was working toward having in place a strategy of bringing the Gospel to them. It was heart breaking and life changing.

Fast forward 10 years, that same working group has had remarkable answers. They have brought a movement of collaboration into place that has impacted the outcome growth of critical pieces needed in the working in cooperation with God in the completion of the great commission.

A key element of what has been driving the work is The Essential Elements of the Great Commission.

EssentialElements
It begins with Scripture for All (Romans 10:17), Evangelism for the Unreached (Mark 16:15), Discipleship for the Churched (Matthew 28:19-20). These are very strategic to bringing transformation of the heart to come to pass.

The currently very strategic essential elements of the Great Commission.

1) Scriptures Translation, Distribution & Use. The “Oral Bible” (Matthew 4:4)

2) Engaging the Unengaged UPGs (UUPG) Those no one currently has a strategy in place to reach. (Revelation 5:9)

3) Evangelism Focus – Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists & Secularists (Matthew 24:14)

4) Orality (Matthew 13:34)

5) Church Planting & Presence (Acts 2:42-47)

6) Prayer & Unity (Luke 10:2 & John 17:20-23)

[For the purpose of this article we will look at items 2, 4, & 6 elements.]

Unengaged, Unreached People Groups (UUPG)

In the area of UUPG, the research reveals in these people groups that the very reality is that there is little to no Scripture access was available in heart languages: Including NO Written Scriptures, NO Oral Scriptures, NO Jesus Film, NO Gospel Recordings, NO Radio Programs, NO Churches & NO Believers. Wycliffe Global Alliance announced in Oct. 2015, there are still 1,778 People Groups that do not have ONE VERSE of Scripture in their heart language or mother tongue.

Orality

For many the Gospel message given just can not or will not be able to be received, because it comes in a format or mode that will not reach them at a heart level. Heart level is where transformation happens! God’s message really needs to be heard. . .

The 10/40 Window is where most of the Unengaged Unreached People Groups (UUPG) live. It is also where the largest number of the Persecuted Church live. In addition, it is the area of the world where the largest numbers of Oral Learners are located.

Did you know 80% of the world are oral learners? Think about it, 5.6 Billion people and of that number over 1/2 are children!

Prayer

As those involved with ION Prayer, we are asking the King in the face of this great need across the globe for those who still wait to hear the transformational message of God’s great gift, the Gospel -the Good News. . .

We are asking for a linking together and a join in prayer for the prayer spoken about in Matthew 9:5-38 The Lord of the Harvest. This is a call for us to advocate and prompt more to pray, that He might send the laborers into His harvest field.

Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. 38 Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”

Father, draw us to a place that we might notice that the reality of Your plan to reach the EVERY AND ALL has not changed, but maybe we might need to make a shift, that results in more fruitfulness in reaching those who still wait to hear.

International Orality Network, the Orality Movement is on the cutting edge of influencing the Body of Christ to make disciples of all oral learners. The billions of Oral & Oral Bible-less who need to hear the Gospel and the gift of saving knowledge of the Salvation gift of Jesus, in a way that will allow them to really receive.

Prayer_wave-licensed

We are asking God to call out pray-ers and intercessors for the Nations and People Groups who still wait… Continue to pray with us for Oral Peoples & Oral Bible-less Peoples.

How do we reach them?! It all begins with PRAYER

Our core team and myself are finishing out ten (10) years in place with the International Orality Network. That is an item to celebrate. Lots of changes have occurred since Avery Willis brought us into this world. We have learned so much about orality and about prayer along our journey. We have been blessed to see prayer grow within the context of ION.

We pray for Scripture, both Written and Oral Scriptures to come to all 23 people groups. We further stand together to pray for an Bible Project to be on some groups planning table soon for each and every one of the 23! Praying in agreement with Jesus, the Lord of the Harvest prayer. Father would you open the hearts of key individuals who will have the courage to proclaim their faith in these peoples. WE PRAY NOW FOR PROJECTS TO CRAFT ORAL BIBLE STORIES IN THESE LANGUAGES. God’s arm is not too short, now does He slumber about these issues. Lord we come into agreement for the needs of these peoples to know you and to have your Word available. In Jesus name. Amen.

_______________________________________________________________

We continue in the format of Kingdom focused, God centered and Spirit driven prayer. We are asking for a greater capacity for intercessors and pray-ers to pray as the Lord and the Holy Spirit are leading you.

Again we are linking to ION partner group PrayerCast.org -as you pray you might want to click here to use the Sudan PrayerCast video during your prayer time.

As we pray this month for these 23 People Groups who have NO SCRIPTURE, let’s link into these prayer points together:

  • Pray for definitive peace and stability between tribal groups and military commanders who continue to vie for power.
  • Pray for government leaders to rule with integrity and justice.
  • Pray for the church to grow spiritually strong despite intense suffering and persecution.
  • Pray that Sudanese believers would remain faithful to Christ in persecution and join together as a unified body of believers.
  • Pray for each of these people groups to have an Oral Scripture Project on the planning table.

The information in the table we use each month comes from our ION partner group Finishing the Task (FTT) http://www.finishingthetask.com/uupgs.php?sort=Country.

Praying specifically for Oral and Oral Bibleless People

The remaining Unreached Unengaged People Groups (UUPG) are for the most part oral societies. We need to shift our understanding to include prayer for the Oral and Oral Bibleless peoples as well. Realizing that large portions of the globe still do not have access to Scripture, we need to learn to pray for those who communicate in oral ways or prefer oral methods. Let’s ask God to teach us to understand the needs of oral communicators, recognizing that they need to hear the gospel story in a different way or format in order to properly understand its message. Let’s pray for God to use technology to bring His story to the masses of this day so that soon there are  ZERO peoples left to hear the name of Jesus. Let’s pray for new gateways and new pathways for the gospel to every tongue, tribe and nation.

How does that happen within the Orality Network

PicsArt_08-28-11.28.59

Technology is opening doors that previously have not been available:

Through the internet the availability of Scripture has shifted the landscape of access to the Bible in multiple languages and mother tongue languages that previously were not open to access by individuals. Praise God with us for the Repositories of Scripture sites like Bible.is and YouVersion .

Another great resource is the Open Access Websites for Oral Scripture and Story Sets from ION network partner websites such as OneStory: Listen Now http://www.onestory-media.org and IMB Partner Connect http://www.IMBPartnerConnect.com and Global Recordings Network (GRN) http://globalrecordings.net/en/search/language#fndtn-panel2 . God is making a way!

Strategic Prayer Matthew chapter 9 verses 37thru38

1. Start with a simple daily prayer – Pause for a moment to pray something as simple as this: Jesus said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matthew 9:37-38). Sign up: http://pray2020.org/

2. Invite others to #Pray2020 – There are a number of ways that you can encourage people to be a part:

  • Invite people personally to pray
  • Refer people to pray2020.org
  • Print a PDF version of a flyer
  • Use a Twitter hashtag (#Pray2020) to let others across the Body of Christ know you are involved: Tweet simply: “I’m in!”

3. Share what you’re seeing God do – Use the same hashtag (#Pray2020) to share specifics of your 2020 prayers, or to link to stories of how you, your ministry teams, or others are seeing God’s Spirit move toward the fulfillment of His Great Commission.

August 2016 ION Prayer Focus

Here we are at August, the eighth month of 2016. Did you know that the number 8 traditionally is known as representing “new beginnings”?

Well we are going to share two things related to “new beginnings”.

The first one is: We are introducing a new monthly feature that will allow us to pray together corporately. To find out more you will need to watch the event page on the official ION Website. For the information for August please click here: https://orality.net/event/praying-for-uupgs-the-persecuted-church-oral-peoples-in-south-sudan/

This month we will be using resources from our orality partner groups, Finishing the Task and PrayerCast. We are grateful for all our intercessors, pray-ers and partners.

The second item is: Our core team and myself are finishing out ten (10) years in place with the International Orality Network. That is an item to celebrate. Lots of changes have occurred since Avery Willis brought us into this world. We have learned so much about orality and about prayer along our journey. We have been blessed to see prayer grow within the context of ION.

ION has a solid foundation of “an invisible, yet tangible platform of prayer.

When we began to pray for ION, it started a chain reaction for us individually and for us as group. The pattern similar to Psalm 40:5
Lord my God, You have done many things—
Your wonderful works and Your plans for us;
none can compare with You.
If I were to report and speak of them,
they are more than can be told.

Most of our prayer team has been to storying training or is actively involved in that sphere or orality on a daily basis. We began to advocate for the persecuted church. As ION received a new Executive Director whose first assignment to us as a team was to lead out in the first official “intentional listening time” as a corporate group (50 Days – Easter to Pentecost 2015).

We followed the understanding that the Holy Spirit would lead us. And He most certainly has. It has been a rich time in the Word and together as a team. We began believing for a “Refresh” in January. We are seeing that as the months have flown by. For orality as a network as we gather weekly to listen and pray, we are asking the Father for “the more” for Orality around the globe.

Remembering back to the book by Henry Blackaby,”Experiencing God” and his “Seven Realities of Experiencing God” list introduced in Chapter 6, page 50.

1. God is always at work around you. 2. God pursues a continuing love relationship with you that is real and personal. 3. God invites you to become involved with Him in His work. 4. God speaks by the Holy spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes, and His ways. 5. God’s invitation for you to work with Him always leads you to a crisis of belief that requires faith in action. 6. You must make major adjustments in your life to join God in what He is doing. 7. You come to know God by experience as you obey Him and He accomplishes His work through you.

We are seeing God at work around the globe. And around our orality network globally!

During the 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting there has been a sensitivity to press in deeper. So as we as a team celebrate our finish of the 10 year milestone we are going to do that.

Beginning August 1st thru August 31st our Core Prayer Team will go silent. We are putting the verse in Psalm 46:10 into place.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10 (NIV)

PicsArt_07-26-08.26.36

We invite you to join us. We are stepping back and going to the quiet zone in preparation for what we believe is coming!

Much is on the horizon for ION and the global orality networks. As we move fully into functioning effectively around the globe, an acceleration of influencing the Body of Christ in greater way is coming. . .

We in prayer are sensing we must prepare. Pulling away to inquire of the Lord. We must ask God for direction in how to pray for the coming season.

Remember the story in 2 Samuel 5:17-25 . .Then David inquired of the Lord. The result is He said, “Like a bursting flood, the Lord has burst out against my enemies before me.” Therefore, he named that place the Lord Bursts Out.”

Then he must go again to inquire of the Lord… God gives a new strategy. We have come so far in the ten years as a team we have been watching and praying. But so much more is about to unfold. We are sensing this is a new season. As prayer strategists, we are know this is a critical time to be about the Father’s kingdom work.

Are you sensing a new season, or are you sensing you need to pull back to just get some quality time with God? The world is noisy right now. So we encourage you to take a day, or a week or join us for a month.

If you need us, send an email, if you want to talk, give us a call… yes a phone call we would love to catch up.

See you in Sept. the countdown to Houston is ticking the days of the calendar off quickly. We look forward to seeing you and hearing your stories and praying together. Be sure to get registered: http://IONEvents.org

Week 3 ION 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

PicsArt_07-23-10.17.40

July 11th thru July 31st

21 days of prayer and fasting*

Week 3
of our 21 day Daniel Fast

Thank you for being a part of this prayer initiative.

For more information see the ION Website posting: https://orality.net/event/ion-21-days-of-prayer-and-fasting/

As we start week 3, know that the ION Prayer Team is praying for you. We pray that your time during this fast is a time spent asking and sharing with God what you are looking for during this time of prayer. We pray for your intentionality, strengthening of you spirit man and your walk with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Calling by Sarah Young shares, “Relax and let ME lead you through the day. I have everything under control: MY control. You tend to peer anxiously into the day that is before you, trying to figure out what to do, and when. Attentiveness to Me is not only for your quiet time, but for all your time. As you look to Me, I show you what to do now and next. When you let Me direct your steps you are set free to enjoy Me and to find what I have prepared for you this day.

We are praying for you to step into this week afresh and receive a new word from the Father. Enjoy, Be refreshed, Be prepared to follow the Father, as He leads.

I will admit, this 21 days has had its ups and downs… But is yet another bright spot in following the Waymaker as He leads and in finding new things along the way. Not just in the spiritual world, but things like this great shake which is both refreshing and nourishing. PicsArt_07-25-09.57.27

It is simply ice, equal parts of : carrot juice & orange juice and a scoop of protein powder blended together. It resembles the old fashioned Orange Julius!

Week 3
Thank you to all who are praying during our 21 days. No matter what God has told you to do, it is all needed. We appreciate you bringing your portion.

Here is a blog post from one of our ION Partner groups, global prayer coordinator related to prayer and fasting. Thank you Colin Stott for being willing to share your posts with everyone.

Prayer and Fasting by Colin Stott

“So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.” (Daniel 9:3 NIV)

There are several things that increase our effectiveness in prayer: faith that believes God will do all He has promised; a spirit of praise that blesses God and inhibits the work of the enemy; and a holy life through which God can work unhindered. Imagine how formidable a prayer warrior with such qualities will be to our enemy.

Another component that will make the prayer warrior even more daunting to the enemy is fasting. Why fasting? Fasting allows us to focus more time and energy on prayer. It indicates a willingness to go through some self-denial to advance the kingdom of God. And Jesus told us that some spiritual battles can only be won by a combination of prayer and fasting. (Mark 9:29 KJV)

There are times in our lives for both feasting and fasting. We celebrate special occasions with special meals. Feasting however doesn’t lend itself to serious prayer as does fasting. It is those times when we deny ourselves food that we find the heart and strength to pray with intensity.

While there is no scriptural command to fast as there is for prayer, the Bible assumes we will fast because Matthew 6:16 talks about when we fast, not if we fast. Fasting has been practiced by God’s people throughout the ages and is often associated with sorrow over sin, times of national crisis, the need for revival, and times when special guidance or wisdom is needed. It is also used in preparation for missionary work.

Scripture doesn’t mandate how often or how long we should fast. It is something we do at God’s prompting. Those with health restrictions may need to forgo other necessities instead of food. The thing is that we should fast in secret (except for times of corporate fasting) so as not to show off our “spirituality.” (Matt 6:16-18)

Fasting is hard on the flesh so it is usually easier not to do it. True fasting can only be done in our Lord’s strength and not our own. We should never be legalistic about fasting or think of it as a duty. It is something we do out of love for our Lord and a longing to see Him exalted and adored by all peoples.

Colin Stott
Global Prayer Coordinator
Global Recording Network (GRN)
Colin is author of ‘Prayer Thoughts,’ a collection of monthly prayer articles to encourage GRN staff in their prayer lives and dealing with various practical aspects of prayer.

John Wesley once said, “God does nothing but in answer to prayer.”

It does seem that God has made prayer indispensable for carrying out His purposes on earth. ‘Prayer Thoughts’ encourages us to grow in our role as intercessors believing God rules the nations through the prayers of His people. What a privilege and responsibility we have in prayer.

The Response: Fasting & Prayer

Fasting is the most powerful spiritual discipline of all the Christian disciplines. Through fasting and prayer, the Holy Spirit can transform your life. Although fasting is always voluntary, scripture is clear that as the people of God we will participate in fasting, but it must come from the place of revelation and personal discipline. Fasting and prayer can also work on a much grander scale. According to Scripture, personal experience and observation, when God’s people fast with a proper Biblical motive-seeking God’s face not His hand – with a broken, repentant, and contrite spirit, God will hear from heaven and heal our lives, our churches, our communities, our nation and world. Fasting and prayer can bring about revival – a change in the direction of our nation, the nations of earth and the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

WHY FAST?

Because Jesus is no longer with us and we were commanded to fast for His return (Matthew 9). When we fast we subdue our flesh and choose voluntary weakness, which is attractive to God. There are so many distractions both positive and negative in our lives that hinder our ability to hear from the Lord clearly. We have set up many idols within the Church that limit our relationship with the Lord and therefore hinder our ability to hear clearly and obey. When we starve the flesh, we increase our ability to feed our spirit! When our flesh is satisfied, our spirit often goes hungry.

Praying for: Oral and Oral Bible-less Peoples

Trouble – Open Doors for the Gospel

Intro: When epidemics or natural disasters strike, or trouble that just comes to individuals and families, the results can be devastating. Often, in the midst of this difficulty and uncertainty there comes an opening for the Gospel.

Scripture: “O LORD, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say, “Our fathers possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good.” -Jeremiah 16:19

Prayer: Lord, You are the good shepherd. You look after each one of Your children. You are the only safe refuge and fortress in times of trouble.

Lord, today some of the Oral and Oral Bible-less Peoples are facing trouble they cannot manage. They are in need of Your help. I ask Lord, that You would respond to their need, and come to their aid.

Use this crisis to introduce them to Your goodness. Allow this difficulty to soften their hearts to Your truth. Give them the grace they need to walk away from the god who has failed them and embrace You as their only Lord and Savior. Open their eyes Lord to see You as the lover of their soul, their refuge, and their fortress. In Jesus name, amen.

Thank you for uniting in prayer during these 21 days. We are grateful that you chose to bring your part. Everyone’s portion is needed.

VOICE OF THE PERSECUTED

July2016 Prayer call Event

(Voice of the Persecuted) I challenge the Christians of the world to pray for their persecuted brothers and sisters, to act on their behalf and to live out the life of Jesus in this needy world around us. Only then we will see a radical change take place in the lives of people. Only then we will see the love of Christ replace the hatred of this world. —Brother Andrew

The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

James 5:16

Does prayer work? Does God really answer prayer? Does He really answer prayer regarding the persecuted Church?

A little over a year ago a tragedy took place in Charleston, South Carolina. A demonic crazed gunman walked into an African-American church wanting to start a race war between black and white. The young man was welcomed warmly by the people of that church holding a prayer meeting…

Day 1 – Week 1 of our 21 day Daniel Fast

July 11th thru July 31st

21 days of prayer and fasting*

Day 1 – Week 1
of our 21 day Daniel Fast

Thank you for being a part of this prayer initiative.

For more information see the ION Website posting: https://orality.net/event/ion-21-days-of-prayer-and-fasting/

As we start, the ION Prayer Team is praying for you. We pray that you have spent some time asking and sharing with God what you are looking for during this time of prayer. We pry for your intentionality, strengthening of you spirit man and that your walk with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit will be enlarged. We are praying for deep times with Abba over these 32 days. We are praying for your heart. We are praying for you to hear afresh, the heartbeat of the Father as you get up close. Lean in… Enjoy.

Here are three links for some menu suggestions and recipes pages from c3Church.com that we found that we thought might be of use to you. You may find their recipes to be a relaxed version in some areas. Remember this is not about being legalistic, but allowing God to see the motive of you heart. Bring your portion, it is all needed.

We would ask you to consider joining in a 21 day Daniel Fast. The idea of the Daniel Fast is to honor God above everything else. Why fast? The aim of a Daniel Fast is to grow closer to God. Daniel Fasts usually are called when extraordinary needs are in front of you.

We believe extraordinary times are upon us and for that we need clarity of mind. We need a more sharpened awareness of God and what God is doing throughout the earth. We believe fasting results in a greater intimacy with the Father. At this time in history we see the tasks before us as nothing more than an “only God can do” time.

prayer & fasting

We are calling you to join in this extended time of prayer and fasting during the time frame of July 11th-31st, 2016.

Looking to God for clarity and purpose for those connected to ION and for those who are even now being prepared by God to be a part into the future. We know many more voices are needing to be heard in the orchestra of orality across the face of the globe. We also are asking for the identification of trumpet blowers, those who are and will advocate for oral peoples, mobilizers in the different areas associated with orality. Believing for new and solid Gateways to be open now and into the future for the sake of taking the gospel to where there are those who still wait. Praying for Scripture in the every and all, for full Bibles and no more Bible Poverty. For accelerated methods and accurate Bible translation for all those mother tongue and heart languages that still do not have ONE VERSE. Praying for Gateway Leaders in all 7 focus areas/gateways. Praying for those involved in orality to be fully immersed in Bible Engagement daily. To maintain the centrality of all we do to be the Bible -the WORD.

We are linking together in a united call of agreement for what the Lord says as the Waymaker in Isaiah 43:16-19, He who made a way. . . He is even now making a way in the desert wilderness and streams and rivers in the wasteland.

July 5: Jesus Calling by Sarah Young

DRAW NEAR TO ME with a thankful heart, aware that your cup is overflowing with blessings. Gratitude enables you to perceive Me more clearly and to rejoice in our Love-relationship. Nothing can separate you from My loving Presence! That is the basis of your security. Whenever you start to feel anxious, remind yourself that your security rests in Me alone, and I am totally trustworthy. . . [Read today’s full devotion in the book, “Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence” by Sarah Young (Thomas Nelson)]

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. —ROMANS 8:38–39

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? —PSALM 56:3–4

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. —ISAIAH 43:19

Steps Before Starting the Daniel Diet Fast -By Donna Sundblad

While some people may try the Daniel fast for weight loss purposes, for most it is meant to be a spiritual experience that draws them closer to God. The fast is a partial fast based on accounts found in the biblical book of Daniel, of a time when Daniel refused to eat the king’s food to follow God’s ways.

Before You Start the Daniel Fast

Instead of eating from the king’s bounty, Daniel opted to eat only vegetables and water. His decision to do so is a lesson for people today in learning to deny self and to seek God’s will.

For anyone thinking of embarking on this spiritual/physical journey, there are some things to consider before you begin. Take into consideration the influence such a change in diet will have on your body. For example, caffeine withdrawal can lead to side effects such as severe migraine-type headaches and nausea. Eliminating sugar from the diet all at once may also lead to undesirable symptoms as the body detoxifies.

The most common symptoms associated with the Daniel fast include:

Headaches
Fatigue
Leg cramps
Malaise

Six Steps to Prepare

Susan Gregory, author of The Daniel Fast, indicates on her website that it’s important to prepare for extended fasting to help prevent negative side effects. The following steps can help prepare you mentally and physically.

Wean off caffeine and sugar: With possible side effects in mind, one of the first steps for starting the Daniel Diet fast should be to wean off caffeine and sugar before you start the fast to avoid these debilitating symptoms.

Eat lighter meals a few days before you begin: Eating lighter meals that are lower in calories and fat helps prepare your stomach for less food intake. If you’re not used to eating fresh fruits and vegetables or legumes, begin incorporating them into your meals. This will help your body gradually adjust to a higher intake of fiber.

How long to fast: Decide how long you plan to follow the fast. As a partial fast, the body does get adequate nutrition and can be followed for weeks. It is typically followed for 21 days.

Check with your doctor: Check with your doctor before starting the Daniel Diet. Let your doctor know what you’ll be eating and how long you plan to follow the fast. Your doctor will know your medical history and whether or not the fast should be modified in some way to fit your physical needs.

Pray: The Daniel fast is a physical as well as a spiritual experience. Through prayer, the dieter should ask for God’s guidance and strength as they prepare to deny self and battle physical cravings.

Set spiritual goals: Also as a matter of prayer, spiritual goals to be accomplished while fasting should be set. These often include prayer, Bible reading, study and meditation.

Stock your kitchen: The Daniel Diet is a fast that limits many foods. Before you get started, stock your kitchen with an ample supply of the foods you’ll need for the fast.

Adequately Prepare for Best Results

The Daniel fast isn’t as much about the food as it is about the spiritual journey to become closer to God. It helps take the focus off food and material things and places it on things eternal and the relationship one has with God. The fast is quite challenging so it’s important to adequately prepare for it to be successful. Not preparing might lead you to stop the program before you’ve achieved your spiritual goals.
