Early on in my adult life as a believer, it became a reality that prayer was a part of the fabric of who I was. . . Today 40 years later, PRAYER is still a part of the fabric of who I am.
Day to day the work of God knitting the fabric of the “Who I am” or better said the “Who’s I am” is a work that only He is capable of doing. The older I get the easier it is to yield and embrace the messiness of the project! For those of you who are crafters, the picture of looking at a project from both sides is the only way to truly appreciate the finished product. There are always two sides to everything. . . the finished side & the side it took to get there!
At this time of the Advent Season we should be more aware of the messiness of the project God is at work in creating in us and be even more willing to yield and embrace the work still needed! That may be where you find yourself in this season of life.
Today my today looks quite different than my yesterdays in the area of work in prayer. Can we think about this in regard to the “Who are we?” and “Who is God trying to help us to become, as HE needs us in His work for our today?”
Often times, the Lord reminds me to think back to what I refer to as my former life as a prayer coordinator. My job most of the time boiled down to the collection and dissemination of prayer requests. In between, an inordinate amount of time was spent writing and sharing with others the “specifics of how to pray” and even the “what to say in prayer” in the publishing of manuals and prayer guides. There was a lot of maintenance in all of it. It took many hours and as I look back on it, quite frankly we made it require things that we put on ourselves much of the time. The reality of that season was simply not as much time was spent, or value given to being a Mary. Jesus said, she was the one who has chosen the best. She chose to go against the grain of who others said she was or what others thought of her as, to just be with the Father, sitting at His feet. (Check out the story in Luke 10:38-42)
It is not hard to get caught off guard and realize the the mundane of the daily tasks can seem to take over your life.
But then God broke in with my friend Avery Willis and followed by the acceptance of the mantle of prayer with the ION group. The reality of how close we are to God’s plan to bring the EVERY AND ALL to Himself, was thrust into the day to day of my life. Take heart, in midst of the mundane He will break in.
The result can if we will submit result in a shift. A realignment of us to what He is really doing. . . and if we choose the best we get to do this awesome thing of joining Him in His work and taking notice (worship in the midst of the work).
For me and our team the day to day involves more time in the Mary mode. More time in the mobilization of intercessors and those who just love to pray. Those who recognize they are called to pray for those who still wait to hear the name of Jesus. The primary thing we get to be involved in is to help others to fulfill their place around the throne of intercession for the Oral peoples and for the Bible-less and for the Unengaged Unreached People Groups. . . we get to see the miraculous works of the Most High along the way. We get to put worship and sitting at His feet in the priority place.
FATHER, cause us to catch what you are up to in the midst of the work.
That comes from being obedient to the Word. From 1 Peter 4:10 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
What does my day to day look like? Last month from a church up the coast who called and asked if we would come and help them to do a day of prayer for their people using the giant ION Floor Prayer Map, we got to see God encounter them. We got to see the “aha” moment of this particular group see prayer as the more. . .
The thought and ability to see prayer being presented as God centered and Spirit driven. To see this Scripture verse be fleshed out. So grateful to be able to bear witness of the blessing of an obedient pastor trying to help his flock to see what God might be up to in the area of prayer for 24 hours with them.
To having the opportunity to pray alongside the Great Commission Partner groups working to finish the task. This past week historic things happened in the world of missions… Our teams are rejoicing with the outcomes of the Finishing the Task (FTT) Conference in California as they saw mission partners step up to adopt all the remaining UUPGs (10,000 pop). Now the real work begins in prayer! Please join us in praying for engagement strategies of God to be set in place under a strong prayer foundation and emphasis. Things have certainly changed in this season compared to the last season of the history of missions. We really are in a new season!
Did you know that in 1900 only 46% or the world’s population had access to the Good News & today in 2015 that number is at an all time record of 70%?!?
Praying in the background for Great Commission Partner groups connected to ION.
There is still so much that needs prayer, there is still so much that needs a prayer advocate/ prayer strategist to help others to see the areas most urgent to pray for. Yet we rejoice for new mission networks that are allowing themselves to be “knitted & fitted” together in new and extraordinary God only ways!
Today more than at anytime in the history or missions, we greatly need people who are willing to give of their lives for the purpose of strategic prayer and the education of the need for a greater work of unified prayer for the Father’s work in this season.
What kind of intercessor or pray-er are you?!
These slides are from the ION Prayer Slideshow featuring Biblical examples of intercessors: ps://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1jr0oW1LVV7np2VjzdQgYQ_Q8QK9TpBoEZuSTENJtxuU/mobilepresent?slide=id.p4 – See more about how to partner in prayer with the ION prayer teams at: http://orality.net/prayer_partners
Could you as a prayer leader or mobilizer of prayer, possibly be called to a different type of prayer leadership? Such as a prayer strategist, who is one who shares and helps their organization, agency, or church to make prayer the foundation of all the work.
We desire to connect and ask the Father how together, He might use us in a greater way. If you would like to talk about taking on the opportunity to be a prayer strategist where you are or are looking for a place to share with others who love to pray, we ask you to connect today.
